Method & assumptions

Target = monthly essentials × selected months + one-time needs. Gap = max(0, target − reserve). Months = ceiling(gap ÷ monthly savings).

Hypothetical worked example

$2,000 essentials × 3 months = $6,000. A $2,000 reserve and $500 monthly savings close the gap in 8 months.

Scope and limitations

  • User-entered planning assumptions, not verified market data or a professional determination.
  • No interest or changing expenses modeled. Choose a reserve horizon appropriate to your circumstances.
